In 1969, The Meters recorded their instrumental classic "Cissy Strut" on their debut record. The genius drummer is Joseph “Zigaboo” Modeliste, his nickname is "Ziggy".
In today's lesson we will learn the popular groove of the piece.
The groove is not simple and there is a combination of the hi-hat in sixteenths and not consecutive ones, which is what makes it groovy and special.
I recommend listening to the full part first, then go to the drums.
You approach the drums, put the notes in front of you and try to read it literally about a quarter and not try the whole bar straight away.
It's a one bar groove that repeats itself.
So good luck to you!
