online drum lessons - learning grooves and the main transition of the song Nirvana-Smells like teen spirit drum
*The first transition with which the song opens is a transition that will be very popular among drummers and any drummer who hears it will immediately understand that this is the song we are learning today. Therefore, regardless of the song, I highly recommend learning this intro. What is happening here is a loop of 3 quarters on the same phrase which is in sixteenth note of course - flam, bass, hi-hat (open) and bass. And in the last quarter we have 2 eighth notes of flam and bass. (Start really slowly!!)
After you pass it, you will move to the groove that comes right after. (below)
*This groove is super rocky. Mainly because the beat of the hit/crash comes every quarter so it really gives a heavy rock vibe. I suggest doing it really slowly and only after that start trying the whole groove in a row. It's really important to count all the sixteenths all the time in your mouth to keep the rhythm and to know where You are there. (1ena2ena3ena4ena).
And the main groove of the song is basic, the tempo is relatively high, so it might be a bit challenging, but really in a small way.
So work on all three and you'll have 80% of the song and you'll be able to start jamming with Kurt Cobain in your ear.
